Cancer – Courage through Christ

March 15, 2023 by

Cancer - Courage through Christ

A cancer diagnosis will change your life. It can impact the way you see your body, your emotions, your future, and even your faith. At times cancer can stalk you like a giant; it’s always in your sight no matter what you do or where you go. At other times cancer can steal your thoughts and rob you of peace. This is true for both those persons with cancer and their loved ones standing alongside them. For anyone close to this disease, cancer requires a huge amount of focus to process the seemingly endless stream of information coming from the doctors’ offices. Evaluating treatment plans, tracking appointments, knowing prescription names, and understanding potential side-effects leaves little energy at the end of the day. Although it’s a struggle to take it all in, here are some thoughts to help you cope.

Where’s God In All This

March 1, 2023 by

Where's God In All Of This?

Suffering happens all around us. Sometimes it comes in the form of a natural disaster; other times it's a form of terror brought on by humans. Sometimes suffering is fueled by economic or medical conditions; at other times it appears randomly. Suffering can happen on a global scale, within a specific community, or be limited to an individual. Suffering comes in so many forms, but they all drive us back to that age-old question, "Where's God in All of This?"

What Is Christmas?

December 1, 2022 by

What Is Christmas

Christmas isn't always the bright and cheery affair found in songs or movies. Can it be merry for a family struggling through unemployment, alienation, and terminal illness?

Written by Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Pastor Wayne Palmer, What Is Christmas? conveys how this season can be a complicated and difficult time of the year. For families working through hurt feelings, strained relationships-even the oncoming death of a loved one--Christmas can be a trying time.

Providing Scriptural narrative from the first Christmas, Palmer conveys how God has reconciled man to Himself through His Son and how His love gives us hope when re--establishing connections with family members.

The best things about Christmas are often those impossible to put a price on-- time spent together, renewed love, and the true joy the birth of our Savior brings.

For many, childhood memories of Christmas are magical-bright lights, and cherished time with family members. Sometimes, however, the passage of time makes those memories distant and elusive, and leaves one wondering whether it's possible to recapture the wonder of Christmas.

Concluding the booklet, Palmer asks the reader this: "Where do you find yourself this Christmas?" Wherever that place might be, the reader is reminded that God's gift of love in Jesus Christ can heal every wound and repair every broken relationship.

Contentment

October 1, 2022 by

Contentment

While we may not be completely satisfied with our lot in life - and let's face it, most of us want more - to label oneself as an "ingrate" seems a bit harsh. Nevertheless, that's what the author of this booklet does. Why he does so is because he knows deep down inside there's more to true contentment than a five-star home, a wife and family, and an expanding bank account. Contentment in this world is an elusive thing. Even with our necessities met and a few perks thrown in for good measure, it can still feel like something's missing. The truth of the matter is there will always be a void if we tie our sense of inner peace to the fleeting things of this world. Offering insight on some key "practices" to implement concerning contentment, the author shows how being truly satisfied is very much tied to our perspective. Citing the apostle Paul's illuminating view on contentment as found in the book of Philippians, the author drills down to the source of the peace and satisfaction in this life.
